A day of firsts

Today Elliott started feedings again and Brett and I both got to feed him for the first time. Elliott is doing very well sucking and he really would like to have more to eat than just 10 ml. of formula, but we gotta start somewhere. It takes him less than a minute to drink the tiny amount they are giving him. So far so good, so we are hopeful that he will be able to continue his feedings. He has not gone to the bathroom on his own since yesterday, but since starting feedings again we hope he goes tonight!

No word yet on the approval for donated breast milk, but we hope to hear an answer on that soon. We know that using God's formula would help heal Elliott's tummy. It is very rare that breast fed babies have gastro intestinal problems, so it is just further confirmation that God's ways are the best ways.

Enjoy the pictures. We love the one of Elliott frowning. This is how he feels when they take his bottle away. We crack up every time we see that picture.

We have gotten to be with him at every visiting time today, so it has been wonderful. That doesn't usually happen, so we are thankful. We have watched several babies get to go home, so we know that it will eventually happen for us too! :o)

  1. He is getting so big! When Clare was first born, she only took in very small amounts at feedings too. And she was breast fed and had very irregular bowel movements. Once she went 7 days without pooping....dr's said it's more normal than you think because most of the breastmilk is digested and there is less waste to get out. It will all work itself out (literally) :)
